The **Helmholtz Institute for Biomedical Engineering -Institute for Stem Cell Biology-** is offering a position for a
**PhD student (M/F/d) on epigenetics in leukemia**:
The project starts as soon as possible, initially funded for three years, with the possibility of an extension. It is a part-time position (65%, currently equivalent to 25,03 hours/week). The position is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG) within the Collaborative Research Unit 344 “Mechanisms of Myelofibrosis in Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN)”.
Epigenetic modifications seem to play a central role for development of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). So far, a systematic evaluation of characteristic DNA methylation patterns of the MPN clone, which might support risk stratification and therapeutic decision-making, remains elusive. It is unclear whether aberrant DNA methylation is directly evoked by JAK2V617F mutations, and if it is co-regulated on different alleles and at different sites in the genome.
**We are looking for**:
A motivated and ambitious PhD student with a strong background in epigenetics, hematology, and/or stem cell biology. You should hold a very good diploma or master degree in biology or a related research field. You should have experience in cell culture as well as bioinformatics. Experience with sequencing data, DNA methylation profiles, and/or iPSC culture would be advantageous. An important part of the work will be close interaction with other members of the Collaborative Research Unit 344 (particularly with our project partner Dr. Hélène Gleitz, Rotterdam). Willingness for teamwork is a prerequisite.
