MicroEnergy International (MEI) is an internationally active consulting company with headquarters in Berlin, Germany. MEI works with international development institutions, policy makers, financial institutions and energy product & service providers, to set up sustainable clean energy and green finance schemes.

In this framework, MEI takes care of the overall project management (from planning through implementation to evaluation), thereby designing, evaluating, and optimizing energy products and services, and ensuring that financial instruments are tailored to the needs of the business sector and end users.

MEI finally strengthens its activities through scientific quality management, in partnership with research institutions worldwide, and offers a variety of training opportunities.

The company is currently looking for a research assistant to support the Academy Competence Center (CC) which consolidates MEI's expertise in the areas of sustainable energy, green finance and promoting knowledge to the beneficiaries and across all MEI projects.

The research assistant is expected to assist the various project teams in market research, strategy development, training development and selecting the best fitting methods to achieve the expected project outcomes.

This is a great opportunity to get first-hand experience in the areas of project management and strategic thinking for the promotion of sustainability in least developed/developing countries. Additionally,

**Under the supervision of the Head of CC Academy, the intern will have the following responsibilities**:

- Conduct desk support, including but not limited to literature and market research in the areas of: renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate change mitigation and adaptation, green finance, sustainable policy, sustainable scale up strategies;
- Support in the development of training, communication material; along with report creation;
- Support of the team during field missions or in background research for project acquisition
activities;
- Facilitate the sharing of lessons learned from previous projects in the field of energy and financial
inclusion;
- Participate in the development and institutionalization of the activities and assignments of the ME Academy Competence Center;
- Perform other job-related tasks, as assigned.

**You will mostly work under the following projects, but not limited to**:

- **Increase the awareness and develop a communication strategy for newly developed Solar PV component standards in** **Nigeria**, with three main objectives:

- Introduce the newly developed standards to the key stakeholders and beneficiaries in Nigeria,
- Convey the benefits to the target audience from different user perspectives,
- Develop a prototype label and tracking platform that will provide transparent and qualitative data on PV components, and
- Present the implementation plan for a market transition and institutional changes required to enforce them with the Nigerian public.
- **Support the Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv) of Nigeria in the development of a Strategic Action Plan for the environmentally friendly and safe disposal of used batteries.**:

- Connect facility upgrading with private investors for deployment of private investment for sustainable collection and recycling of used batteries in Nigeria.
- Develop market-based mechanisms for deployment of private investment for used battery collectors and recyclers.
- **The EcoMicro Program - The “Green Finance for MSMEs and Low-Income Households**:

- The EcoMicro Program” is a US$ 17 million facility established to pilot green finance for MSMEs and low-income households in LAC. The goal of the program is to facilitate green finance to increase access to RE/EE products, and to assist in adaptation to climate change.
- Conduct data analysis and strategy proposal for the implementation of a sustainable strategy of the financial institutions (beneficiaries).
- Develop a scale up strategy post-pilot incorporating
- demand projections and financial analysis based on the results of the pilot;
- risk assessment and risk management strategy;

- have an educational background in economics, sustainable development, sustainable policy, sustainable finance, engineering or a related field in environmental studies;
