As part of a DFG-funded Clinical Research Unit (BecauseY), the group of Prof. Andreas Meisel at the Department of Neurology/Center for Stroke Research Berlin is looking for a highly motivated PhD Student (f/m/d) to work on a project related to stroke immunology.
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and adult invalidity worldwide. As acute stroke treatments improve, more patients survive after cerebral ischemia and hence the long term consequences of stroke gain increasing importance. Especially post-stroke dementia and depression are debilitating consequences occurring after brain ischemia. In recent years, it has become clear that chronic inflammatory changes after stroke might be at least partially responsible for the development of these pathologies.
Die Stelle im Überblick
The focus of the project is to study the effect of intrathecally produced antibodies from the chronically inflamed post-stroke brain. Experiments in this project will include the following methods:
**Experimental animal research**: animal surgery, behavioural testing, rodent MR imaging
**Molecular biology**: bacterial cultures, cloning, PCR
**Cell culture**: primary cell cultures, transfection, recombinant antibody production and purification
Statistical analysis of the data, presentation of the results in group and institute meetings as well as national/international workshops
Independent planning and execution of in vitro and in vivo experiments
Scientific staff is given sufficient time to carry out their own scientific work in accordance with ther employment relationship. The position also serves the qualification goal of the doctorate
Danach suchen wir
MSc degree (or equivalent) in a field related to biology, immunology, molecular medicine, or equivalent.
Experience in experimental cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, electrophysiology and animal research is desirable
Interests in animal research (behavioral testing, animal surgery, small animal MR imaging )
High motivation, flexibility, teamwork skills, capability to work independently and think critically
Excellent English skills (written and spoken)
