Two junior research groups at the Mildred Scheel Early Career Center for Cancer Research (MSNZ) are looking for enthusiastic young scientists with a background in life sciences who are keen to pursue postdoc projects centred around the tumour and metastatic microenvironment.

Project #1 - Group Rasche (Multiple Myeloma): The group is interested in bone marrow cancers, particularly in the pathogenesis and evolution of Multiple Myeloma (MM). Our aim is to characterize the plasma cell survival niche on a single cell level to identify MM permissive cell-cell interactions, potentially changing our understanding of immunotherapies and informing therapeutically targeted future studies. Project #2 - Group Kretzschmar (Adult stem cell niche in cancer): The group is interested in the adult stem cell niche in epithelial tissue homoeostasis and cancer with the oral mucosa and head and neck cancer as model systems. To map cell-cell interactions and characterise the role of bidirectional signalling within the tissue and tumour microenvironment, we use genetic lineage tracing, advanced transcriptomics and organoid technology. - cutting-edge research in young teams, closely collaborating within the MSNZ
- full-time appointment for 2 years, fixed-term, extension for additional 2 years is possible
- close collaborations with the Comprehensive Cancer Centre, the University Hospital, the Max Planck Institute for Systems Immunology and the Biocentre in Würzburg

Ihr Aufgabengebiet:

- developing the bioinformatics/computational parts of the projects, including analysis and visualisation of single-cell and spatial transcriptomics and imaging data as well as development of new bioinformatics tools
- advising and assisting experimental scientists in designing, performing and analysing experiments
- supervising student projects including master's thesis and internship project
- managing sequencing data and other digital data
- drafting progress reports and manuscripts for publication
- presenting your results at meetings and conferences

Wir wünschen uns:

- a doctoral degree in one of the abovementioned fields
- an interest in combining wet lab and computational analysis
- prior knowledge of bioinformatics analysis (e.g., R, Python) is advantageous but not obligatory (project #1)
- extensive programming- skills
- in R and Python as well as robust experience in the analysis of single-cell transcriptomics datasets (project #2)
- an interest in cell and tumour biology
- a good command of the English language
- ability to work independently and collaboratively within the group
- Posat least one first author research article published in or submitted to an international peer-reviewed journal
