**Duties**:
- Provide a safe workplace by identifying potential and/or actual exposures.
- Conduct briefings with safety supervisors to obtain information of problem areas.
- Formulate guidance, directives and information bulletins related to the occupational health program in the serviced area
- Advise personnel on a variety of industrial hygiene matters.
- Identify potential health problems and symptoms, indicating possible occupational diseases resulting from the work environment.
- Conduct periodic surveys of working conditions to determine the nature and magnitude of hazardous exposures and the effectiveness of existing control measures.

**Conditions of Employment**:
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- Applicants must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program requirements as outlined in the DoD Instruction 1315.19.
- This position requires a valid, state-issued and USAREUR Driver’s License and must be insurable in order to travel to other locations in the Command’s structure.
- This position requires Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel approximately 25% of the time away from your permanent duty station.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- Heavy lifting is required up to 40lbs.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment.
**Qualifications**:
**Who May Apply: US Citizens**
Basic Requirement: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.
OR
Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
**In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below**:
**GS-11 Specialized Experience**:One year of experience which includes: 1) Conducting industrial hygiene studies or surveys; 2) Compiling and analyzing data; AND 3) Preparing technical reports.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or a related science, or in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
**GS-12 Specialized Experience**: One year of experience which includes: 1) Planning, implementing and evaluating comprehensive industrial hygiene programs; 2) Directing and conducting periodic surveys of working conditions; AND 3) Providing consultation and advice to safety, engineering and scientific personnel on occupational health problems.
