**THE POSITION**:
Biostatistics and Data Sciences (BDS) is a global organization with more than 400 employees within the Human Pharma Business Unit. Working in close collaboration with other functions at Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) and external vendors we combine methodological and technical data science skills with business and scientific expertise to drive smart, timely and confident decision making at every stage of drug development, approval, and access.
On our journey to transform BDS into a modern data science organization in clinical development capable to thrive in a world of rapid and continuous change we are looking to further enhance our footprint regarding data-driven methodologies that allow us to get most out of our clinical data. Therefore, we will extend our team by a Post Doc researching on and implementing cutting-edge methodologies in this area.
In your role as a Post Doc you will identify, develop, and evaluate promising approaches in one or more of the following areas: multivariate statistical prediction models, supervised and unsupervised statistical learning, model assessment, joint modelling, optimized feature engineering, subgroup identification, computer vision.
Guided by our BDS experts on statistics and data science you will define strategies related to your focus area from a data science/statistical methodological perspective. You will consult with clinical development teams from various TAs to support the implementation of these strategies. You also will support the development of standards and tools e.g., based on R markdown to facilitate such analyses. To publish on your results in scientific journals as well as networking with academia is a key component of your role. This is also ensured by an active participation in our vibrating network of students and student projects.
This position is limited for 2 years.
**Tasks & responsibilities**:
- Your investigations will lead to ready-to-use software, graphical user interfaces, technical reports and publications in collaboration with statistics colleagues within and outside of BI.
- In your new role you will supervise students (master’s and bachelor’s level) on subtopics within the area defined above leading to internship reports, theses and related software.
- You will network with related academic institutions.
- With your expertise you will present your results at internal and external meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- You will be responsible for the provision of trainings on basic and advanced statistical learning approaches to statistics and non-statistics colleagues within BI.
- As a Post Doc you will collaborate with experts in the field and be part of the Statistics team at BI.
**Requirements**:
- PhD degree in Mathematics/Statistics or related field
- Expert knowledge in statistical learning approaches and/or clinical development is a plus
- Familiarity with techniques like penalized regression, partitioning methods and joint modelling is a plus
- Knowledge in R. Ideally experience with R-shiny, R markdown and publication of R packages
- Knowledge regarding other related software (e.g. Python) is a plus. Knowledge of IT-related and high-performance computing related aspects is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record of authoring publications in scientific journals
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally
- Fluency in English (written and spoken)
