In the Faculty of Arts and Humanities’ Media Systems and Media Organisation Research Group led by Prof. Christian Fuchs, based at the
Department of Media Studies, the following position is to be filled:
- Researcher in the Field of Critical Digital Studies with a Focus on Digital
Democracy (f/m/d)
(salary level according to 13 TV-L)
with 100 % of the regular working hours. This is a fixed-term position from 1st January 2025 until 31th December 2026 due to third-party funding
within the meaning of the Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG).
The appointed early career researcher will work at Paderborn University in the Horizon Europe research project INNOVADE: INNOVAtive
DEmocracy through Digitalisation (funded by the Call HORIZON-CL2-2024-DEMOCRACY-01-07: Past, Present and Future of Democracies).
INNOVADE’s goal is to better understand and to advance digital democracy. Prof. Christian Fuchs is the Principal Investigator (PI) of one of
INNOVADE’s research teams. The Paderborn University team focuses on theories and social research of digital democracy. The researcher will
work together with Prof. Fuchs in INNOVADE. The working language of the INNOVADE research project is English. The nature of the project
requires weekly presence in Paderborn, so distance work is not an option.
Field of activity:
- Conducting theoretical and empirical research on digital democracy
- Collaboration with international partners
- Writing of research reports
- Publication of research works as project outcome (single authored works as well as work co-authored with Prof. Fuchs)
- Dissemination of results
- Attendance of project meetings, work and working group meetings, workshops, conferences
Recruitment requirements:
- A Master’s Degree in any suited field in the Social Sciences and Humanities
- Excellent academic English skills
- Knowledge of critical social theory
- Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative social research methods
- Interest in theories of democracy
- Interest in digital democracy
- Co-operative skills
- Willingness to travel and attend international project meetings, workshops, conferences and dissemination events
- German language skills are an advantage
- Suitability as early career researcher who holds a relevant degree
