**Senior Legal Counsel (Bilingual)**

**The Opportunity**

MariaDB is looking for an experienced attorney, in Germany, to join our legal team. This role is a great opportunity for someone with a passion for technology, whom has excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Your primary responsibilities would involve supporting MariaDB and its customers/business in Germany followed by the rest of Europe and beyond. You will work primarily on drafting, negotiating and advising upon various commercial transactions, including in-bound and out-bound agreements for database and cloud/SaaS agreements; vendor and supplier agreements; strategic partnership agreements; channel/reseller/distributor/partner agreements; new and existing product and service offerings; geographic expansion; corporate and governance matters; intellectual property; local regulatory and compliance (including data privacy/GDPR) matters; and other transactional support. You will work with and support senior management across all departments and you will be a key component of our success in Europe and beyond

**Responsibilities**
- Draft and negotiate global contracts and other legal documents with a particular emphasis on SaaS, database/software and services agreements
- Articulate and assist customers, both internal and external, with license contract interpretation, negotiations, and administration of licensing agreements, including extensions, new business, invoicing, etc.
- Facilitate and coordinate internal discussions amongst functional stakeholders locally and internationally (i.e. Sales, General Counsel, Finance, Marketing, IT, Engineering, etc.), to reach practical business solutions
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure business alignment and compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations
- Advise on legal issues in different areas, including but not limited to commercial, corporate, procurement, data privacy / GDPR, intellectual property, IT, and employment matters
- Perform ad-hoc counsel as needed, and handle day-to-day legal activity in Europe as well as commercial matters internationally
- Assist with engaging and interacting with external counsel, as needed

**Qualifications**
- 8+ years' experience in commercial transactions or similar discipline
- Advanced fluency in English (both verbal and written)
- Advanced fluency in German (both verbal and written)
- Cloud and SaaS contract knowledge
- Software licensing knowledge and experience with drafting, editing, and negotiating contract documents
- Experience advising on IP, product, privacy, and corporate governance
- A passion for law and technology and demonstrating sound legal judgment, attention to detail, clear communication skills, and an enthusiasm for learning
- An understanding of how to effectively provide legal advice in a rapid growth environment
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication, conflict resolution, and analytical skills
- Self-motivated and able to complete matters without extensive supervision
- Sound business judgment, with the ability to recognize the business consequences of legal advice
- Hands-on, active, "roll up your sleeve" mentality
- Ability to think clearly and rapidly under pressure
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize simultaneous assignments in a fast-paced, dynamic, and high-volume environment
- Ability to build trusting relationships with stakeholders at various levels across the organization
- Completed studies in law and fully qualified lawyer in Germany

**Bonus Experience and Skills**
- Experience providing legal support on a global scale
- Ability to read and write and negotiate legal agreements in other languages
- Interest and experience to design processes that enable a legal team to scale
