The Typas group is looking for a Computational Biologist with broad expertise in analysis of high-throughput screening, sequencing and imaging data, especially

You have
- PhD in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics with strong interest and experience in biological data analysis and scientific software development
- strong & diverse background and interest in computational data analysis and management
- advanced programming skills, including R, Python, Unix/Bash
- advanced understanding of molecular genetics and genomic sequencing data, specifically of human gut microbiome data, metagenomics and MAGs, microbial pangenomes and evolution
- very good understanding of microbiology and microbiomes
- experience in setting up bioinformatics services and computational workflows for large-scale DNA and RNA sequencing data sets using software pipelines in an HPC or cloud environment
- desire to support and assist biological researchers in their bioinformatics analysis
- ability to generate synergies in microbial/microbiome genomics analyses within the group and across EMBL
- strong communication skills as well as the ability to interact with other scientists and to work in an international and interdisciplinary team.

You might also have
- educational background in sequencing statistics, advanced computer programming and/or algorithm engineering
- experience in setting up bioinformatics services and computational workflows for large-scale multi-omics data sets using software pipelines in an HPC or cloud environment
- experience with image-based analysis
- experience in software development, maintenance and user support
- familiarity with machine learning methods and approaches
- knowledge of web software development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and web server administration
