**Purpose and Scope**:
The Carpenter constructs, repairs, designs, modifies structural wooden products for collapsible hard and soft shelters systems for departmental work centers.
**Essential Responsibilities**:
- Measures, marks, and saws boards to specified size, using ruler, pencil and power saws.
- Assembles and nails board’s together, using hammer, power stapler, or nailing machine.
- Repairs damaged containers by replacing damaged parts, using hand tools.
- Salvages used crating by removing nails from board with hammer, nail puller, or crowbar and by sawing ends with portable electric handsaw.
- Assists in maintenance and repairs on aluminum prefabricated shelter structures to include assembling and disassembling of shelters and preservation and crating components.
- Operates power wood-working machines to include cross and bench saws, planers, band saw, router, power planer, and trade associated hand tools.
- Responsible for the upkeep of workshop tools and machinery to include sharpening of saws using hand file or power tools.
- Ensures all tool, personal protective equipment and clothing issued remain safe, secure and serviceable, reporting any deficiencies.
- Inspects Hazardous Materials within the assigned work center and coordinates with the appropriate office for the disposal of HAZMAT when required.
- May be required to assist in other departments when directed or requested to accomplish a specific task or project.
- Assists in the erection, construction and operation of BEAR Base shelter systems and associated equipment to support real world exercises and contingencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned
**Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required**:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- 5 years of Military or civilian experience in the field of carpentry, structural/facilities maintenance required.
- Certified carpenter through a military or civilian formal technical training program preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Harvest Falcon, Eagle, and BEAR assets preferred.
- Must possess a valid home country driver’s license and ability to obtain host nation driver’s license.
- Must be able to read and understand technical data, measurements and engineering drawings for construction, repair of portable boxes, containers and building facilities instructions pertaining to Civil Engineering and BEAR Base assets and related equipment.
- Experience operating material handling equipment is required.
- Knowledge of applicable safety procedures, regulations, and guidelines.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English.
- Must have authorization to work in host country.
**Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands**:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs with or without accommodation. Must utilize all proper lifting procedures and practices. Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Must be able to work at heights. Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles of various sizes and heights. Must be able to work under pressure and strenuous conditions. Must be able to meet short suspense dates. Must be able to conduct work in the out-of-doors area with potential exposure to extreme climatic conditions (i.e., extreme temperatures, high humidity, rain and blowing dust). Must be able to withstand prolonged periods of stooping; climbing; standing; and sitting for long periods of uninterrupted time.
