The European Institute for Energy Research EDF-KIT EWIV (EIFER) is looking for a
**Research fellow (M/F/d)**
**in Alternative (bio / synthetic) fuels production technologies, **who will be part of the research group “Local Multi-Energy Systems”.
The position is based in Karlsruhe with a duration of initially 2 years starting as soon as possible. The salary is based on qualifications and experiences.
The European Institute for Energy Research was founded by EDF and the KIT in 2002 aiming at enhancing collaboration through projects applied to industrial issues and utilities’ needs. With its applied research orientation EIFER has been bridging the gap between science and industry for more than 20 years. In the context of the European energy transition, EIFER provides research-based innovative energy solutions for a sustainable future.
Within the group, a specific focus is given biofuels and synthetic fuels (chemically produced from CO2 / N2 and H2) like SAFs, methanol and ammonia. On those topics an extensive work program is ongoing on different aspects:
- strategic and economic analysis of the development of these fuels, their development potential and future role in the decarbonation of the economy.
- technical and economic analysis on the conversion technologies based on technical expertise, process engineering approaches.
- detailed technical studies on the design, operation, and integration of the technologies in the energy systems.
**What you can expect**
- Detailed Technical and economic evaluation of bio/synthetic-fuels conversion technologies
- Design and evaluation of alternative (bio/synthetic) fuels concepts / technologies and their integration in the energy system (flexibility, environmental impacts )
- Technical/economic/strategic studies and analysis for EIFER’s clients (operational entities and strategic department of a utility)
- Participate to the development of the activity and EIFER’s scientific recognition in the field of bio/synthetic fuels:
- Answer to calls for public funded projects (European / German call for projects)
- Develop EIFER’s partnerships (industrial and academic) in this domain.
- Publish results in scientific journals and conferences.
**What we expect**
- A master’s degree or equivalent in a domain related to the topic: chemistry, process engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering
- 5+ years professional experience in the field of hydrogen / biomass / synthetic fuels is required.
- Rigor and respect of quality/cost/deadlines requirements
- Team worker with the ability to work independently in a structured way
- Synthetic and analytical mindset and critical spirit
- Ability to convey clear and efficient messages orally and in written form
- A very good level in English (both written and spoken) is mandatory and a good level in German and/or French would be an asset
