The Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) at RWTH Aachen University enhances the innovative strength and competitiveness of industry through groundbreaking basic research, applied research, and the resulting consulting and implementation projects in the field of industrial production. In collaboration with industrial partners from various sectors, it develops practical solutions for future-oriented value creation systems. Within the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) research group, the Department of Automation and Control Technology at the Chair of Machine Tools addresses complex issues at the interface between mechanical engineering and computer science.
The Industrial Internet of Things involves using smart sensors, actuators, and other devices, such as radio frequency transceivers, to improve manufacturing and industrial processes. In the IIoT, devices are typically networked to collect, share, and analyze data, with insights from these processes enhancing efficiency and reliability. Wireless communication is increasingly becoming an indispensable part of smart manufacturing and already plays a central role. The development and evaluation of advanced sensor technologies, hardware interfaces, and communication protocols for the effective interaction of various components within wireless sensor-actuator networks is a key focus of current research and a core aspect of the advertised position. **Your Profile**:
- You are prepared to demonstrate above-average commitment to demanding tasks.
- You have an interest in programming tasks and the ability to familiarize yourself with new, complex technical issues.
- You are willing to responsibly carry out assigned tasks.
- You already have programming skills in C, C++, Python, or other programming languages.
- You are currently studying mathematics, physics, or engineering sciences.
- You have excellent English skills for conducting research in international publications.
**Your Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Support in implementing mathematical methods for iterative estimation of parameters to describe system states (e.g., Kalman filter) and solving nonlinear optimization problems in the C programming language.
- Participation in scientifically based literature research: systematic review, meta-analysis, meta-ethnography, and meta-synthesis.
- Preparation, execution, and follow-up of measurement investigations.
- Taking on various cross-sectional tasks in ongoing research and industrial projects.
**What We Offer**:
The position is to be filled at the earliest possible date and offered for a fixed term of 12 months.
This is a part-time contract position.
The standard weekly hours will be 12 hours.
The salary is based on the RWTH Guidelines for Student and Graduate Assistants.
The position corresponds to a pay grade of 13.25 euros per hour.
