As a member of the Data & Engineering team at Seqana you will support us in envisioning and building the definitive data platform for quantifying soil organic carbon and its carbon sequestration potential.

- About Seqana:
One of the most powerful (and underutilized) solutions to climate change is capturing carbon in soils via regenerative agricultural practices - this approach has the potential for several times more climate impact than planting forests, and provides extensive co-benefits.
Seqana is an EU- and venture-backed start-up, based in Berlin, building a machine learning platform for quantifying where, and how much, CO2 can be sequestered in soils around the world. Our product enables farmers, project developers, NGOs, and large corporations to drive soil carbon sequestration and transition towards regenerative and climate-preserving agriculture.

- The Role:
Our growing team is looking for a motivated working student who wants to gain practical experience as a GIS Solutions Engineer. GIS Solutions Engineers employ Seqana's technology to design, develop, and deliver high-quality and high-value GIS products/solutions to our clients and internal stakeholders. The GIS Solutions Engineers serve as technical experts for the client-facing side of the business. They work at the nexus of the tech, product and business development teams to understand client requirements, design and develop solutions using our technology, and implement those solutions in ways that are useful and understandable to clients and collaborators. They also conduct critical GIS analyses to Seqana internal stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
GIS Solution Engineers provide a variety of services and deliverables to clients and internal stakeholders. Depending on your skills and expertise, you'll own one or more of the following responsibilities:

- You run machine learning models for client projects in different geographic regions around the world to:

- Predict soil organic carbon (SOC) sequestration and analyze SOC change
- Generate insights on where carbon sequestration projects should be placed (project scouting)
- Stratify areas by SOC concentration and generate soil sampling plans
- You run vegetation change analyses for client projects around the world
- You create slides and presentations for clients with your findings and may write reports
- You conduct GIS analyses for internal stakeholders to inform strategic decisions
- You analyze accuracy of our machine learning models on client projects
- You optimize our workflow further by automating and standardizing processes

- Proficiency in Cartography/Processing in QGIS and Python
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
- Growth mindset and drive to make things happen in a startup environment
- Bonus:

- Technical report writing, Google Earth Engine, Git, machine learning/model training and tuning, data science, statistics, graphic design
- Experience working with databases and PostgreSQL
