Backend Architect

**Tasks**:
- Define domain boundaries, engineering routines and architectural guardrails (focus: backend) of the future Statista platform.
- Plan, monitor and advise on the stepwise migration approach from the existing monolith to the target architecture (event-driven, autonomous apps, cloud native).
- Actively co-develop fundamental services and solutions of target architecture in joint effort with responsible tech teams (idea to proof-of-concept).
- Consult Tech Leads in taking architecture decisions and steer architectural decision making process (ADRs).
- Define metrics, establish tooling and consult on routines for steering delivery processes and site performance and reliability.
- Host events and connect with external community for exchanging best practices.
**Requirements**:
- Years of engineering experience in various company environments, preferably in tech-driven business models like e-commerce or media.
- Expert-level knowledge of modern tech stacks (self-contained systems, event-based architectures, aws).
- Has led operational tech teams and brings a deep understanding for the trade-offs between tech excellence and delivery accountability.
- Proficiency in proven practices for tech steering, continuous delivery, domain-driven design.
- Strong communicator, willing and able to convey architectural plans and guardrails to engineers and accountable management alike, is capable to document and communicate findings and recommendations in a clear and concise way in written and orally.
- Excellent analytical and conceptual capabilities: Can structure complex issues, strives for end-to-end understanding of issues and identifies root causes; proactively brings supporting evidence to substantiate own recommendations.
- Trusted leader: Exerts strong influence on others also in lateral leadership settings, highly regarded go-to-expert.

As Backend Architect and member of the Tech leadership team, you help Statista building the next generation of its global product platform, Statista 4.0. In cooperation with the Frontend Architect, you drive architectural decisions ensuring agility and scalability of our user-facing services, seamless backoffice processes, and high productivity of our engineers. Your outstanding technical expertise and assertive yet supportive personality are highly appreciated across our engineers. You play an instrumental role in facilitating technical excellence in domain architecture, skills and engineering routines at Statista.
