Your working environment
- As part of the Volkswagen AG Group Innovation the sub-department 'AI and Data Analytics' investigates and develops new methods for automatic driving systems. Even though automatic driving is already possible in simple scenarios, complex environments like urban areas require a robust and reliable perception and scene understanding to enable safe automatic driving which pushes traditional rule-based algorithms for sensor and data processing to their limits.
Therefore, our small international team works on state-of-the-art machine learning methods like artificial neural networks to overcome the challenges of automatic driving. The work covers the whole development chain from system design and implementation to final integration into the vehicles and system testing.Your tasks
- We offer you the opportunity to join our team and to work within a 3-year doctoral program of Volkswagen in the exciting field of autonomous driving. In your PhD you will focus on deep neural networks for perception and scene understanding. In contrast to current systems your contribution will lie in the field of explainable AI systems that also should be able to handle context knowledge about the world. A basis for the work could be AI systems like ChatGPT, Flamingo, etc. which became very popular recently.
Your participation in the 3-year doctoral program of Volkswagen offers you the following benefit:

Your qualifications
- Completion of Master's degree with doctoral authorization in: computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering or equivalent field
- Very good academic performance
- Strong analytical and conceptual skills
- Driver license for EU (passenger car)
- Fluent English (at least B2)
- Good knowledge of programming with Python, C++
- Proficiency in ML frameworks like PyTorch, Tensorflow, or TensorRT
- Ability to work independently, motivated
