Research Associate (M/F/x)
starting at October 16, 2023. The position entails 100 % of the fulltime weekly hours, of which
50 % are initially limited for 18 months (until 15.04.2025) and 50 % initially limited for 36 months (until 30.09.2026). The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).
**Working field**:
**Tasks**:
- detailed numerical simulation of thermo-mechanical and fluidmechanical thrust chamber behaviour
- thorough literature review and design concept trade-off
- in-depth system studies on the applicability of the investigated propulsion technologies and the potential implications thereof
- detailed design of rocket engine demonstrators according to specified requirements for performance, integration and manufacturing
- establishing test plans and supporting test preparations and execution
- extensive analysis of experimental data
- close communication with stakeholders
- reporting to funding organisations
- presentation of results in papers for scientific journals and conferences
- supervision of student theses in the frame of the projects.
**Requirements**:
- Essential skills:
- university degree (MSc or equivalent) in the field of aerospace engineering, physics, or similar
- solid knowledge of flow mechanics, chemical space propulsion systems, computational fluid dynamics and rocket engines
- ability to work highly efficient and self-reliantly in a diverse inter-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment
- ability to work in a team, as well as independently
- ability to solve complex problems with adherence of strict deadlines
- excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) in English
- proactive attitude
- As secondments to partners and participation in events are foreseen, applicants must be ready to travel.
Desired skills:
- experience in laboratory work including the design, conduction and evaluation of experiments
- project management
- knowledge of the host institution language is a plus
