**Master thesis within Parallelization of sensor fusion and sensor management functions (d/f/m)**:
The conventional avionics hardware is not conducive to massive parallelization of software functions due to certification challenges. With the advent of GPUs and the computational benefits that they bring, it is expected that these challenges will be overcome and several software functions will be able to be parallelized or multi-threaded.

The goal of this work is to explore the computational benefits arising from parallelizing sensor fusion and sensor management functions such as a particle filter and path planning algorithms for emitter localization. A key aspect of this work will be to compare the new, parallelized software version to the baseline implementation with no parallelization and perform a cost-benefit analysis.

**Your location**:
Located about an hour’s drive north of Munich, Manching is an up-and-coming market town that offers a wide range of leisure and cultural activities. Here, you can enjoy the quality of life in the countryside while the pleasures of near-by cities are still within easy reach.

**Your tasks and responsibilities**:

- Investigation of appropriate hardware for parallelizing the selected functions
- Parallelization of existing sensor fusion and sensor management functions
- Analysis of computational benefits versus additional implementation and hardware costs
- Investigation of aspects that hinder the testing and certification of parallelized functions

The described work will be performed in the Autonomy Lab where several multicopters are available for fast prototyping and testing of avionics functions. It will also be part of the Cross-Platform Mission Management (XPMS) project which studies and prepares algorithms that can be subsequently used in the Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T) demonstrator and in other projects with relevant interests.

For more information see:
**Desired skills and qualifications**:

- Enrolled student (d/f/m) in the field of Information Technology or similar
- Good skills in C++
- Good skills in GPU programming (e.g. NVIDIA Jetson)
- Familiar with probability theory & statistics
- Good English & German language skills
- Team player
