Upvest, founded in 2017, enables any financial institution to offer great investment experiences to its customers. Upvest is an investment firm regulated by the German supervision authority (BaFin). The company currently employs 160+ people across Europe with its headquarters based in Berlin, Germany.
The company is backed by the world’s largest venture capital funds and investors including Bessemer Venture Partners, BlackRock, Earlybird, HV Capital, Notion Capital, and ABN Amro Ventures, as well as by renowned fintech entrepreneurs (including Maximilian Tayenthal, founder of N26, and Felix Haas, founder of IDnow).
We’re looking for fintech enthusiasts to join us in creating the financial infrastructure of tomorrow. We’re building the first European Investment API to enable any financial institution offering a wide range of efficient and transparent investment products, such as stocks and ETFs in nominal, portfolio, and fractional form. **Your mission**:
As a Risk Intern at Upvest, your mission will be to dive into various risk topics through conducting comprehensive impact assessments, refining internal risk models, and creating and maintaining dynamic BI dashboards. Your enthusiasm for solving complex problems will drive automation initiatives and support cross-functional data queries. With your analytical mindset and data-driven approach, you will ensure accurate modelling techniques and contribute to the development of robust market risk models, driving innovation in risk management while making a significant impact on our organisation’s resilience. Your contribution will empower the company to scale by driving data-driven decision-making and fostering strategic growth.
**This role will give you the opportunity to**:
- _ Risk Model Management:_ Maintain and enhance our internal risk models using Python and SQL, designing and implementing enhancements to increase accuracy and broaden risk coverage.
- _Business Intelligence:_ Craft and refine dynamic dashboards, insightful reports, and alerts using Looker to boost data transparency and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) effectively.
- _Impact Assessments: _Collaborate with other teams to conduct comprehensive impact assessments and calculate necessary collateral for potential clients, ensuring strategic decision-making.
- _Automation:_ Generate and implement creative ideas to automate risk analytics processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy, and explore new tools and technologies to bring the team to the next level.
- _ESG Scoring:_ Contribute to the development of robust Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) scoring metrics, promoting sustainable business practices.
- _FX Modeling:_ Engage in the development and refinement of FX models, driving informed financial strategies.
- _Research:_ Conduct thorough research and due diligence on various market-related topics to support data-driven decision-making and strategic initiatives.
- _Securities Onboarding:_ Partner with various departments to streamline the securities onboarding process for clients by conducting thorough risk assessments, communicating critical findings, and tracking the instrument onboarding.
- _Data Request Support:_ Utilise Looker, BigQuery, and Bloomberg to fulfil internal and cross-functional data requests, providing precise and actionable insights.
**Job requirements**:
- Commitment to a 3 - 6 month full-time internship
- Enthusiasm about fintech and investments and curiosity to learn more about risk management and data analysis at a BaFin-licenced investment firm
- Bachelor/Master studies in Finance, Mathematics/Statistics, Computer Science or Economics with a quantitative focus
- Skills in Python and SQL, or similar programming or database languages
- Experience with Google CollabVBA or Google Apps Script a plus
- Eagerness to learn and a passion for taking on new challenges
- Curiosity for new technological developments which drives your pursuit of discovering and implementing innovative tools
- A self starter with a strong sense of ownership for your work and an ability to iterate quickly
- A team player who is excited about working with a diverse range of colleagues
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
- Willingness to relocate to Berlin (where our office is located) to experience the unique team culture at Upvest
- Eligibility to work in Germany
