Principal AI/Modeling Scientist

For a client in the field of biopharma in Stuttgart we are looking for a Principal AI/Modeling Scientist (m/w/d) . This is a 100% remote role and can be performed from anywhere within the EU . POSITION OVERVIEW We are seeking a visionary and highly experienced Principal Modeling to join our R&D Team. In this strategic role, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of next-generation hybrid models and digital twin technologies for biopharmaceutical applications. You will drive innovation by integrating machine learning, mechanistic modeling, and bioprocess expertise to solve high-impact challenges in biomanufacturing. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, key customers, and senior leadership to deliver scalable solutions that shape the future of digital biopharma. As a senior technical leader, you will also mentor junior colleagues and help guide the strategic direction of the modeling team. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Strategic Modeling and Digital Twin Leadership Lead the architecture and development of advanced digital twin models, integrating AI/ML with domain-specific knowledge Design hybrid modeling approaches that combine ODEs, SDEs, PDEs, and neural networks for accurate, scalable solutions Champion the use of state-space and control theory to support process simulation and automation strategies Innovation and Scientific Leadership Drive strategic innovation in computational modeling, explainable AI (XAI), and optimization techniques tailored to biopharma Publish research, present at conferences, and contribute to thought leadership in the modeling and digitalization community Evaluate and integrate emerging technologies into our modeling framework Stakeholder and Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as the modeling SME in interactions with C-level stakeholders, key customers, and external partners Translate scientific and technical insights into actionable strategies for customers and internal teams Collaborate with software engineers, data architects, and product managers to ensure efficient deployment of solutions Team Mentorship and Development Lead and mentor a team of modeling scientists, fostering a culture of scientific rigor, creativity, and continuous learning Guide the professional development of team members, supporting both technical excellence and career growth End-to-End Data and Model Pipeline Oversight Architect scalable, resilient data and modeling pipelines Lead model deployment and monitoring using cloud platforms and MLOps tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, MLflow) Ensure model transparency, accountability, and real-world applicability through best-in-class validation and explainability TECHNICAL SKILLS Proven expertise in hybrid modeling, probabilistic methods, neural ODEs, PDEs, control theory, and system optimization Deep proficiency in Python and relevant data science and ML libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, Scikit-learn) Experience with distributed data processing and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Airflow, Flyte) Proven expertise in machine learning (time-series analysis, computer vision, LLMs, etc.) Strong familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) for model deployment and scalable computation Deep understanding of upstream bioprocesses, bioreactor systems, and data sources in the biopharma domain SOFT SKILLS Outstanding communication skills, capable of conveying complex modeling concepts to executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams Strategic thinking with a proven ability to align technical initiatives with business objectives Leadership and mentoring abilities to inspire and grow technical teams High-level problem-solving mindset and passion for innovation in biopharma digitalization PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Prior experience leading large-scale modeling initiatives or research programs in the biopharma sector Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and scientific contributions Familiarity with regulatory standards and GMP environments in biopharma Experience with advanced MLOps and explainable AI frameworks YOUR NEW SOCIAL BENEFITS Mobile office option (up to 40%) and flexible working hours Flat organizational structure Open feedback culture Work in interdisciplinary teams Continuous training and mentoring opportunities 30 days of annual leave E-GYM membership Bike leasing for both professional and private use Company pension plan Fresh fruit and beverages provided Does this position sound like a good fit for you?
