The Chair of Scalable Database Systems (Professor Stefanie Scherzinger) at the University of Passau invites applications for the position ofGraduate Research Assistantstarting 1 January 2026. The position is funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space within the research project «Quantum Computing for ErUM» (QC4ErUM).This is a full-time position on a one-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of renewal for up to three years in total.Your responsibilitiesCollaborate in a distributed research project on quantum software and data engineeringInteract with researchers from computer science and physics, with a service-oriented mindsetDesign, develop, and evaluate research software prototypesPersonal requirementsCompleted university degree (Master's) in an accredited study programme, preferably in computer science, physics, or mathematicsExcellent programming skills and a solid background in software and data engineeringExcellent command of English, both spoken and writtenKnowledge of German is advantageous but not a requirementWillingness to network and travelAbility to work independently, with a structured and research-oriented approachDesirable: Prior experience or strong interest in quantum software engineeringWhat we offer youThe opportunity to pursue a doctorate within the research projectA stimulating research environment at the interface of quantum computing and data engineeringCollaboration within a dynamic and interdisciplinary teamRemuneration in accordance with pay grade E13 of the German public-sector collective agreement (TV-L); the salary level depends on qualifications and experienceA rewarding, diverse and challenging academic position on a modern, verdant campus located on the banks of the river Inn, a few minutes' walk from the historic Old Town of PassauA great work climate in a family-friendly environmentThe University of Passau wishes to increase the proportion of its female staff and expressly encourages women to apply for the position.This position is suitable for candidates with disabilities.
