PURPOSE

Providing expertise in the areas of analytical chemistry, constituent analysis, predictive analytics and NIRS spectroscopy. Support routine analyses and research projects, including chromatographic, spectroscopic, or other wet chemistry analyses. Responsibility for lab operations, purchases, waste disposal and safety. Management of PC & IT related tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Independently execute wet chemistry and NIRS analyses for rapeseed, sunflower and corn, including quantitation for eg Protein, Sugars, Starch, Fibre and Oil
  • Run high throught analysis for fatty acids from oilseeds
  • Optimize existing analytical methods as needed
  • Keep abreast in analytical chemistry to establish new analytical technologies
  • Develop, validate and maintain NIRS predictive models for constituent analysis in the lab and on harvesting machines
  • Master several data science packages (WinISI, SensoLogic, Eigenvector, Data Robot) and be able to run R-functions and -scripts for data evaluation
  • Operate and maintain diverse lab instrumentation
    (GC, HPLC, Protein analyzer, Robotics, lab and field based NIRS instruments)
  • Provide technical advice as subject matter expert and present research results (in English) inside and outside of own team.
  • Supervise, lead and develop Contractors and Research Associates
  • Manage all IT & PC related maintenance, repair, ordering, software and helpdesk tasks for the entire set of laboratory computer

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MSc. in Biology, (Bio-) Chemistry with 3-5 years relevant industrial experience
  • Expertise in plant compositional analysis and NIRS Spectroscopy
  • Chemometrics, predictive analytics and statistics skills
  • Good computer, Windows OS, office and data acquisition software skills
  • Ability to network and passion to teamwork
  • Well organized and detail oriented.

  • Strong sense of safety and good laboratory practices
  • Very good communication skills, fluent in German and advanced English
