Job Title: Buyer – Scrap Li-ion Batteries and Black Mass

Reporting to: Business Solutions Consultant

Location: Remote (Home Office, Germany)

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Buyer to join our team. The ideal candidate will specialize in sourcing and purchasing scrap lithium-ion batteries and black mass, while actively selling recovered materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. This role is pivotal to driving business growth in the sustainable and circular economy sector.

Key Responsibilities

Procurement and Sourcing

• Build strong relationships with suppliers across Europe and internationally, focusing on end-of-life lithium-ion batteries, production scrap and black mass.
• Negotiate competitive contracts, ensuring alignment with quality, cost-efficiency and sustainability standards.
• Collaborate with recycling partners to strengthen and diversify the supply chain for NMC, LCO, LMO and NCA batteries.

Sales and Trading

• Develop and manage a portfolio of clients for recovered lithium, nickel and cobalt.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with end-users, refineries and manufacturers in the battery and raw materials sectors.
• Monitor market trends, pricing, and demand to identify and maximize revenue opportunities.

Market Analysis and Strategy

• Conduct market research to explore opportunities for business expansion and cost optimization.
• Analyse market trends to develop and refine trading strategies aimed at enhancing profitability.
• Provide forecasts and actionable insights on commodity pricing and market developments.

Compliance and Documentation

• Ensure strict compliance with international trade regulations and environmental standards.
• Manage all necessary documentation, including contracts, invoices and customs declarations.

Collaboration and Reporting

• Work closely with internal teams (logistics, finance, and operations) to streamline business processes.
• Prepare regular reports on trading performance, market conditions and profitability metrics.

Requirements

• Proven experience in trading metals, batteries or related commodities.
• Strong knowledge of the lithium-ion battery recycling industry, including end-of-life batteries, the black mass market, and key raw materials (lithium, nickel, cobalt).
• Exceptional negotiation and communication skills.
• Established network of suppliers and buyers within the battery recycling and raw material sectors.
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex market data and trends.
• Proficiency in English and German required.
• Self motivated, capable of working in a remote setting and meeting deadlines consistently.
