Your tasks

At GRAS we are a team of highly motivated, supportive, and committed young professionals with a multitude of backgrounds. If you feel we are a fit, we are looking forward to welcoming you as a GIS Developer in a permanent full-time position in our team at the GRAS head office in Cologne.

You will independently manage and execute internal as well as client projects in collaboration with both internal and external business partners
You will conceptualize, develop, and compute spatial data products for international markets at various geographical scales
You will optimize and automate data analysis and production workflows, and cultivate ideas and processes for new, innovative data products
You will visualize the results of spatial analyses using open source technical and scientific systems such as quarto, R markdown or others
Swiftly adopt new techniques, methods, and trends, share your expertise within and across our teams, and incorporate them into our internal tools, routines, data, and service portfolios
You will enhance and expand our development environments, including Linux Servers, and our internal R packages
You will develop high-quality solutions to the diverse spatial challenges our clients encounter, utilising innovative geographic data science tools
You will continually strive to enhance and engineer automated workflows for our suite of products and services

Your profile

University degree (MSc, PhD) in computer science, engineering, geoinformatics, statistics, geography, business informatics, or similar with a strong focus on quantitative methods and techniques
Proven work experience in GIS software development
2-3 years of relevant work experience in the field of GIS and earth observation
Expert knowledge in R and advanced knowledge in at least one further script language or cli tool (e.g., SQL, Python, Linux Shell, Git)
(advanced) skills regarding the automated (spatial) data analysis (Data visualization, data management) using a programming language and or in combination with a GIS
Knowledge regarding Docker, tidy data principles, the split-apply-combine approach, and Shiny dashboard development
Ability to critically reflect, interpret and present methods and analytical results
Clear commitment to teamwork and a high degree of autonomy and responsibility
Experience with cloud services, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) including knowledge of various AWS services such as EC2, S3, RDS, and Lambda
Be willing to help your teammates, share your knowledge with them, and learn from them
Be open to receiving constructive feedback and turning it into process improvements
Excellent language skills in English (at least C1) is essential
Keep up-to-date of the latest developments in tool development and geospatial data science. Ideally, you are an active contributor to the dynamic R community
