Applications & Proposals Engineer - Systems and Solutions (f/m/d) - Entwicklung, IT

Main responsibilities: 
  • Take ownership of enquiries assigned by the EMEA Systems proposals Group, initiate the proposal cycle and inform stakeholders of ownership and expectation. This includes proposals for high specification systems. 
  • Prepare and deliver detailed technically correct and commercially valid proposals within agreed timeframes. This should include promoting and marketing the added values and benefits of the developed solution taking into account the brand positions of Edwards, Leybold and AC vacuum. 
  • Interpret customer specifications and design and develop a saleable systems solution that takes into consideration the process, mechanical, electrical and control requirements of the customer. Clearly define any assumptions, clarifications and deviations from the customer requirments and include them as part of the proposal. Including sizing and selection of pumps and all ancillary equipment within the system. Proposals are inclusive of offers for materials, documentation and services.  
  • Generate technical support documentation where appropriate including but not limited to Process & Instrument Diagrams (P&ID), Process Flow Diagrams, preliminary installation drawings, 3D models, documents lists, bill of materials, inspection & Test Plans, deviations & clarifications list for inclusion in quotations. 
  • Prepare cost estimates based on your P&ID and bill of material and coordinate with production companies,  suppliers and the Proposal Team to deliver cost estimates within the required timeframe. 
  • Interact with other departments (e.g. Legal, Risk Management, Application Support, Business Development, Service,  Product Management) to ensure validity of the technical and commercial offer. 
  • Support the bid clarification process with timely and professional responses, providing technical support to sales and attending customer bid clarification meetings to present and clarify the proposal as necessary. 
  • When Purchase Orders are received ensure the sales order can be accurately and quickly entered. Provide the necessary information to projects and product companies in a structured way to begin work with a clear understanding of requirements. Attend internal and customer kick off meetings to ensure requirements and expectations are clearly understood. 
  • To be a point of Contact for internal and external customers and liaise closely with customers and Sales to ensure their requirements are fully understood and met or clarified. 
  • Drive Improvements in Proposals tools and processes for Systems projects. 
  • Handle all contractual issues (if any), jointly with the Sales and application team as required.
To succeed, you will need:

Must haves:

  • University Degree/Equivalent in Mechanical, Chemical or Process Engineering 
  • Self-driven and an excellent problem solving ability, combined with on the job training and ongoing learning for the next 3-5 years. It should be part of your personal attitude to become an undisputed vacuum solution expert
  • Microsoft Excel and VBA 
  • Project Management skills 
  • Must be a good communicator and have spoken and written English
  • Should be conversant with engineering documents like GA Drawings, P&ID, etc.
  • Experience of interface with customers and suppliers in Engineering environment

Nice to bring but not mandatory, as this will be part of our training journey: 

  • Experience of Proposals/Project Engineering for Rotating Machinery and/or Package Units like Vacuum systems, Compressors, Pumps, etc. 
  • Experience of interface with customers and suppliers in Engineering environment. 
  • SAP, MS Project 
  • Knowledge in FEA (Finite Elemente Analysis), CAE (Chemical Engineering and Applications)  
  • Knowledge in Pressure Vessel Codes (ASME VIII Div 1, EN 13345-3, AD2000) and directives (PED) 
  • Knowledge in Heat Exchanger Design (TEMA) 
  • Explosive Atmosphere Environment (ATEX, NEC) 
  • Fluid Dynamics and Vapor-Liquid-Equilibrium calculations.
