Jobsummary:

We are looking for apassionate climate scientist who wants to apply their deepexpertise in climate model simulation, climate physics, andstatistical analysis to support our corporate clients inunderstanding and quantifying the physical risks of climate change.You enjoy developing bespoke analysis, working together with amotivated team, and integrating public and client-specific dataadhering to best scientific standards to support client ambitions.You are enthusiastic about using the latest datasets andmethodologies and translating them into a business context. You arepassionate about translating complex problems into understandablechallenges and bringing climate science ‘out of the ivory tower’.You will work with large international corporations to help themunderstand and quantify physical climate risks and develop climateresilience that contributes to a climate-smart society in thefuture.

The goal of the Principal/Senior ManagingConsultant, Physical Risks is to ensure the timely delivery ofhigh-quality consultancy advice to international, regional, andlocal clients on physical risks for the corporate sector. You willbe fully accountable for the development and overall management ofproposals on climate change scenario analysis, physical riskidentification, and integration into corporate risk management, aswell as for the implementation of projects, for which you willsupervise various project teams. You will provide technicalguidance to the project teams and act as the main point of contactfor the client. You will also leverage your vast technicalexpertise to drive business development activities and generate newleads. In addition, you will contribute to the development of newproducts and solutions at South Pole relating to physicalrisks.

Main tasks &responsibilities:

  • Leadthe planning, management, and execution of highly complex/verylarge consulting mandates for the corporate sector on climatechange scenario analysis, physical risk identification, andintegration into corporate risk management to ensure the mostefficient and highest-qualityimplementation.
  • As a senior expert, providesupervision, guidance on and technical leadership in internationalconsulting mandates and proposals, as well as lead their technicalreview.
  • Develop new consulting businessopportunities and collaborate closely with the Key AccountManagement team.
  • Interact and buildrelationships with our local and international clients, andcontribute to the winning and timely delivery of consultingmandates.
  • Lead the development of South Pole’sthought leadership, services, products, marketing materials, andofferings.
  • Lead and directly manage small teamsof consultants in a multi-stakeholder and multi-geographiescontext.
  • Participate in business strategy andleadership-relevant internal discussions to position our consultingactivities within South Pole's overall business andoffering.
  • Provide guidance on and technicalleadership in the development of proposals and implementation ofadvisory projects for the corporate sector on physical risks andbroader alignment with disclosure frameworks and regulations (e.g.CSRD, ISSB, TCFD), as well as lead their technicalreview.
  • Develop and improve specialised skillsand knowledge linked to South Pole’s physical risksoffer.
  • Support in driving South Pole’s thoughtleadership, services, products, marketing materials, and offeringsrelating to physical climate risks in alignment with globalreportingframeworks.

  • Gap analysisagainst ISSB/CSRD E1/ TCFDrequirements.
  • Climate change scenario analysis(focused on physical risks).

Requirements:

Essential-

  • University degree,ideally PhD in climate science, hydrology, meteorology, orphysics.
  • Expert knowledge of climate science,climate risks, natural catastrophe modelling, financial impactquantification.
  • Relevant work experience (theexpectation is a minimum of 10 years) in sustainability consultingor climate risk management including experience in working withcorporate clients in one or more of the following areas: climatescenario analysis; climate risk management, climate adaptation,financial impact modelling.
  • Working knowledgeon advanced statistical methods including usage of AItools.
  • Working knowledge of project-orientedprogramming language.
  • Excellent technicalproject supervision skills and ability to guide projectteams.
  • Excellent stakeholder and clientmanagement skills, including ability to lead contractnegotiations.
  • Industry-relevant connections,with a network of potential clients, collaborators, and otherrelevant stakeholders.
  • Commercial skills andgood business sense so as to be able to identify and seizeopportunities in a challenging and competitive marketenvironment.
  • Understanding and experienceworking within the CSRD/ISSB/TCFD reportingframeworks.
  • Excellent oral and written skillsin English.
  • Excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills, with specific communication experience tosenior decision makers (such as C-Suite) and across a range ofstakeholders.

Desirable-

  • Working experience ininsurance or reinsurance space with expertise in financial planningand risk integration.
  • Strong quantitativeskills (data analysis/visualisation and advanced Excel abonus).
  • Good working knowledge of all GoogleSuite applications and MS Word andExcel.
  • Diligent, reliable, andproactive.
  • Fully comfortable operating in afast-paced international environment.
  • Excellentprioritisation and time managementskills.
