Job Description
Our robotics team is seeking broad, curious engineers to join our diverse team. In addition to holistically designing, building, and delivering end-to-end robotic systems, our team is responsible for the core infrastructure and tools that serve as the backbone of our robotic applications, enabling roboticists, machine learning scientists, and software engineers to collaborate and deploy systems in the field.
As a Robotics Hardware Development Engineer, you will design, build, and test innovative robotic systems and their components such as the end of arm tools. The ideal candidate has experience designing and analyzing mechanical systems, enjoys analytical problem solving, and possesses practical knowledge of manufacturing methods.
The ideal candidate thinks well at the system level, but can dive into the details. They are well organized and have a proven track record of delivering and acting with good judgement and independence. They are able to communicate effectively within the team and with outside vendors, suppliers, customers, and collaborators.
Key job responsibilities
In this role you will work with our technical team of scientists and engineers to design, prototype and evaluate innovative robotic systems and their components. You will also coordinate with the teams’ external interfaces with suppliers and contractors, collect business and systems requirements, write specifications.
The right candidate will possess a strong hardware engineering background and will be curious and enthusiastic to learn. You must be able to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment, and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing priorities.
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 4+ years of experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment.
- Established background in Robotics or Mechatronic Systems with technology focus in actuator and sensor evaluation.
- SolidWorks experience with best practices for part design, advanced assemblies, complex configuration management
- Proficiency with Agile Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO’s.
- Experience related to systems architecture, design, and system integration of mechatronic devices.
- Familiar with using and the capabilities of rapid prototyping equipment (CNC, 3D printing, waterjet, laser cutter).
- Built and deployed robots to production environments
- Strong problem-solving abilities with the capability to develop creative and effective hardware solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Fluent English.
Preferred qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in the design of robotic hardware.
- Strong hands on experience with the ability to craft simple proof-of-concept models.
- Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering.
- Significant experience with the hardware product development process.
- Demonstrated ability to develop deep understanding of the business and end user needs quickly, and can proficiently translate those needs into the right technology solution.
- Fluent German.
