SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the state’s capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.
SVCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of Annual Fund Officer. The successful candidate will report to the Director of Institutional Advancement and will be responsible for the management, including creation and implementation, of a comprehensive, multi-channel annual fund initiative. The Annual Fund Officer will lead, direct and administer all aspects of annual fund giving to include: face-to-face and phone solicitation, direct mail fundraising, online fundraising, donor database maintenance and appeal segmentation, donor acknowledgement and stewardship, gift processing and financial reporting. This position will be a vital part of the Institutional Advancement Team. The primary duty of this position is to set and manage the solicitation goals and strategies in support of the SVCC Foundation annual fund, focusing on increasing participation in giving and annual philanthropic revenue through strategic, creative and multi-channel approaches. This position will build and cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders and effectively promote the mission of SVCC to a broad and diverse audience.
Responsibilities of the Annual Fund Officer include but are not limited to:
Lead and manage the SVCC annual fund program by building a year-round fundraising plan to include developing goals, strategies and programming that aim to build and engage the SVCC donor base Create, implement, manage and evaluate the college’s annual fund program to include solicitation of alumni, friends, current and former faculty and staff Handle all levels of direct mail and electronic appeal solicitation campaigns, reports and other relevant correspondence Participate in the expansion of the college’s alumni program Build a core group of alumni volunteers to participate in the expansion of this project Organize phonathon campaigns as needed Lead fundraising projects, monthly giving programs, special appeals, peer to peer fundraising, outside events and other elements that support the annual fund Write inspiring annual appeals efficiently Cultivate beneficial relationships and partnerships Supervise and manage volunteers Ensure consistent and timely communications both internally and externally Ensure effective and efficient utilization of and management of donor database functions including data entry, data quality, cash and in-kind donations, production of reports, tax receipts, credit card donations and recurring gifts Utilize software to track visits, produce contact notes and conduct appropriate follow-up Create and implement processes to document in database, conversations with all stakeholders as well as appropriate data entry for notes, cultivation activities, volunteer solicitor actions, appeals, etc. Prepare and/or coordinate reporting tied to data needed for reports presented to board, committee and leadership meetings Create, implement, and evaluate strategies that lead to sound donor cultivation, prospecting, segmenting, acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship Work with the Director of Communications to publicize through newspapers, newsletters and social media Assure that all donations are appropriately acknowledged and entered into the system for tracking purposes Coordinate the gift entry and acknowledgement process with office personnel Develop a donor thank you and recognition effort Contribute to newsletters and ongoing email communications to keep our donors engaged Develop individualized cultivation plans for all donors in portfolio Work with the Director of Institutional Advancement to cultivate new donors, retain existing donors and inspire donors to move up the pipeline to major gifts Manage and/or assist with special event planning and implementation Manage and coordinate all aspects of fundraising and stewardship events, ticket sales, sponsorships and mission driven programming Identify potential guests Develop announcements and invitations Coordinate arrangements Supervise activities Coordinate the annual SVCC Foundation golf classic, working with members of the team to plan the event Prospect research, identification and cultivation Seek peer input and research tools that would enhance the Foundation’s ability to research and identify funding prospects Evaluate additional resources and recommend implementation of appropriate tools Research and identify potential funding sources Develop cultivation plans for identified funding sources Minimum Qualifications:
Experience working with racially, economically and age-diverse individuals Experience with project management Creativity and experience in the development of gift strategies, programs and solicitation materials that will inspire donors Strong working knowledge of MS Office or comparable software suites and fundraising software Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and execute an annual fund program and fundraising events within established time frames and budget constraints Demonstrated and documented success in fundraising Demonstrated experience in data analysis with the ability to analyze potential donor research materials to target appropriate givers Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community Progressively responsible experience in alumni relations, annual giving or comparable relationship management/fundraising experience Demonstrated record of meeting professional goals and working as a team to achieve department and agency goals in a timely manner Demonstrated success soliciting and closing sizeable gifts Ability to work collaboratively with the institutional advancement team to create and manage a comprehensive fundraising plan and appeal schedule for the annual fund Ability to manage volunteers to include recruitment, management and training Ability to utilize software to track visits, produce contact notes and conduct appropriate follow-up Ability to analyze results of the annual fund by tracking progress and generating reports Ability to assist with prospect research Ability to represent the college’s goals and missions as a positive role model Ability to interact professionally with students, college employees and members of the public Ability to lead and motivate students, colleagues and volunteers High professional and ethical standards for donor centered fundraising Adept at managing tasks, planning events and balancing priorities Self-directed with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team Knowledge of fundraising ethics and practices Discretion in handling confidential information and materials Preferred Qualifications:
