The primary purpose of this position is to broaden the skills and/or enhance the leadership perspective of an identified high-potential, mid-level manager/executive; it is not a continuing position and assignment duration is limited to 36 months.

Duties

DUTY 1:


Performs Career Broadening assignments/duties to include the planning, organization, direction, and evaluation of a public affairs function with broad applicability, ensuring that public affairs activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.

Serves as the organization subject matter expert and program manager in assigned areas of responsibility, which may include news media operations, social media activities, internal (command) information, civic outreach, marketing, branding, Air Force band performances, visual information, communication research, planning and assessment, contingency/crisis response, and personnel and resource management.

Develops program strategy, goals, objectives, priorities, plans, programs, policies, procedures and activities. Anticipates mission, regulatory, resource, or other changes that may affect assigned area of responsibility.

DUTY 2:


In a Career Broadening capacity, performs assignments to include managing broad programs, special projects, and initiatives with responsibility for researching, planning executing, and evaluating complex public affairs operations, programs, policies, and strategies of significant local importance.

Responsibilities may include contingency planning and operations, resource management, news media relations, emerging technology/social media,

community relations, planning and execution of prominent special events, internal information, visual information, or communication planning research, or analysis.

Plans work to be accomplished, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, identifies need for changes in priorities, and takes action to implement such changes.

Provides advice, guidance, and direction on a wide range of public affairs matters.

Directly interfaces with organizational directors and staff; local elected and appointed officials and their representatives; news media representatives; civic and special interest organizations; business, professional and academia leaders; prominent civic leaders; and the general public.


DUTY 3:
Represents the organization inside and outside the agency.

Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with senior officials; intergovernmental and nongovernmental leaders; local elected and appointed officials; news media, think tank, and entertainment industry representatives; business, professional, and academia leaders; civic leaders; and the general public.

Meets with key customers and coordinating officials to assess customer satisfaction, explain organization policy and procedures, and resolve problems that arise.

Researches and determines or recommends appropriate actions or interpretation of issues that impact the organization.

DUTY 4:
Carries out special projects and assignments designed specifically to meet the broadening intent of the position.

Participates in policy formulation; advises on the potential public reaction to proposed policies, plans, and actions; and plans, organizes, and evaluates communication strategies, goals and objectives, programs, products, and materials.

Shapes the strategy, direction, synchronization, and integration of communication efforts and establishes authoritative policy, precedent, procedures, and guidelines, providing trusted public affairs counsel to senior leaders.
