We are looking for a Vice President Medical & Scientific Affairs (VP MSA) for Janssen Germany .

At the Local Operating Company (LOC) level, the Medical & Scientific Affairs organization in Germany holds one of the broadest and most strategic roles across the entire company. The Medical & Scientific Affairs organization plays a pivotal role in driving innovation and various critical initiatives such as digital transformation and new Go to Market strategies, orchestrating these initiatives within the regional EMEA Strategy & Operations organization. Germany holds a strategic seat and a significant Medical Affairs voice at the R&D table and is a strong voice in the EMEA MAF Leadership team.

In this role, you will hold broad responsibilities for the functions of Medical Affairs (Therapeutic Areas & Medical and Regulatory Excellence incl. Medical Compliance) and dotted line responsibility for Pharmacovigilance/Drug Safety, Commercial Quality and Clincial Operations. You will have an overall responsibility of leading a team of around 200 employees. You will report directly to the Managing Director Germany and will be a key member of Janssen Management Board, with direct impact in the strategic direction of Janssen Germany and the broader EMEA and global organization. Due to the nature of the role the VP MSA will also partner closely with the VP Medical Affairs EMEA.

Externally the VP MSA will play a key ambassadorial role for Janssen Germany with the aim to build and enhance trusted collaboration with external stakeholders and key decision makers. You will also engage and interact and have high-profile discussions with a broad audience (i.e., Head of Departments in Clinics, Institutions, Regulatory bodies, Media outlets, Politicians

The VP MSA is expected to build a vision for the Medical & Scientific Affairs organization and create followership at local, regional and global level continuing on the strong legacy of the predecessor with the mandate to further elevate and bring out of the box thinking and inspirational leadership to the organization and the team.

Key responsibilities

Main activities/tasks

Local and EMEA Medical Strategy and Execution:
  • Develop, shape and implement the local Medical Affairs strategy in alignment with EMEA and Global.
  • Contribute to the development of local, EMEA, and Global level brand and evidence generation plans as appropriate.
  • Prioritize LOC medical activities and budgets in alignment with agreed strategies and plans, collaborating with the business as appropriate to ensure appropriate resources and budget are allocated to studies and other local medical activities.
  • Maintain direct contact with KOLs to gather insights and input on products and Therapeutic Areas (TA) and to develop strong peer to peer relationships and
  • Develop mutually beneficial scientific partnerships with KOLs.
  • Maintain accountabilities for all legal, compliance and pharmacovigilance (PV) aspects relating to local medical activities and liaison with legal/compliance/PV representatives
  • Ensure awareness of and usage of Medical SOPs throughout LOC.
  • Act as Company Medical spokesperson and local PR person/ 'Medical Ambassador'.
  • Close partnership with regional and global Medical Affairs stakeholders

People Leadership
  • Provide inspirational leadership to a team of senior leaders and the whole local Medical Affairs organization of about 200 employees.
  • Continue to evolve the MSA leadership ambition at Janssen Germany.
  • Establish and develop an impactful team with specific focus on talent development.
  • Ensure oversight on R&D activities in alignment with dotted line reporting functions (Clinical Research).
  • Applying networking and collaboration competencies across various teams responsible for, lives Credo Values, drives diversity, equity, inclusion and ensures they are demonstrated in the day-to-day interactions of the MSA Team.
