Your tasks
As a doctoral researcher at IHS, you will be involved in the group's projects, in particular in studies on the relationship between the use of digital platforms and processes of social inequality with a specific emphasis on work, relationships and affect. You will develop your dissertation project around the subject matter. The position will allow you to
Learn to critically assess the impact of digitalization on work and relationships
Participate in research on platforms and marketplaces, e.g. in the field of gig-economy or dating
Analyze processes of identity building and community formation in the virtual world
Co-design and co-write grant applications
Engage in advanced scientific research and independent policy advice
Communicate findings to the scientific community and the public Your tasks
About you
You have completed a Master’s degree in social sciences or a related discipline (e.g., sociology, digital humanities, computational social science, science and technology studies, psychology).
You have strong skills in digital methods (e.g., virtual ethnography, walkthrough method, web scraping, text mining), or a strong interest in developing these skills.
You are prepared to conduct methodologically demanding qualitative and/or quantitative studies.
You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Good command of German is an advantage.

The monthly salary for the advertised position is based on the FWF scheme for doctoral candidates and amounts to € 2,684.10 gross for a 30-hour week, paid 14 times per year.
The position is to be filled on January 1, 2025. The initial contract period is 3 years, with the possibility of an extension upon successful internal evaluation.
