THE ROLE AND TEAM:
The Pricing Platform is responsible for algorithmic pricing, pricing tooling, and measurement systems. Zalando's efficient growth relies on our ability to drive key consumer-facing aspects through a platform approach. The prices consumers see and transact against are critical in the customer journey.
The majority of prices customers see are algorithmically generated via the pricing platform, and the remaining prices are done using tools the platform designs.
This position directly manages the prices for SKUs from thousands of brands for nearly 50 million customers totalling several billions in revenue and is central to Zalando's commercial strategy of seeking profitable growth.
As the Head of Engineering within our Pricing Platform team, you will manage the engineering aspects of our platform.This will include overseeing the data, processing, testing, and productization of the forecast, optimization, user interfaces, distribution of output, testing, support and maintenance, and assisting with the overall product development.
You will lead a team of managers and engineers in developing the ability for users/customers to efficiently input, manage, and steer the optimization as needed with parameters and constraints.
This position will partner with your Science and Product counterparts to define and deliver new enhancements to the Pricing Platform.
It will also work closely with other teams within Zalando and seek ways to contribute to the engineering community both internally and externally.
WHAT WE'D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING):
- Oversee the engineering of production optimization systems that manage the highly granular and seasonal pricing.
- This includes the design, development, and testing for both front end interfaces and back end processes
- Provide thought leadership and project guidance for prioritisation of continuous enhancements to the engineering aspects of pricing algorithms
- Seek to leverage new technologies and methods
- Perform internal assessments and audits of systems and processes, as well as discovering new innovative approaches to improve the engineering, efficiency, and reliability of the pricing systems
- Manage the formulation of solutions to productionize new models that translate current business processes into scalable, systematic, and sciencebased solutions including demand and forecasting models, inventory data feeds, and optimization solutions.
- Collaborate effectively with good communication and facilitate training and education with diverse stakeholders
- Contribute to the engineering community
This role requires balancing a practical approach with a "keep it simple" mentality while simultaneously seeking highly sophisticated, state-of-the-art solutions.
You will lead teams of mostly engineers, analysts, and possible applied scientists.
It will be required that you take ownership of your department's results, ensuring that new and existing data-driven capabilities across multiple product areas continue to deliver value.
Furthermore, you will build multiple high-performing teams that deliver substantial projects contributing to the overall company strategy.WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF:
- Proven ability to independently develop long-term roadmaps for research topics that span multiple product areas and align with concrete business goals.
- Experience in managing both departmentwide and crossdepartment delivery projects, with the ability to define clear paths to completion despite high uncertainty.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of building and managing highperforming teams.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex insights to various stakeholders.
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in a similar role with large scale optimization systems with the highest level of operational excellence
- Experience translating complex science models into production quality
- Demonstrated expertise in design, development, delivery, and maintenance.
- Strong technical background with proficiency in relevant tools and technologies.
