Duties:

  • Receives, stores, and assembles a wide variety of materials for issue, shipment, and distribution.
  • Receives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments; Checks accompanying documentation against container or packing labels; and Follows established procedures in reporting over, short, misdirected, and/or damaged materials.
  • Assembles items for shipment in the loading area according to information provided on the shipping requests and checks the condition of shipping containers prior to loading; Ensures shipments are properly loaded onto the right conveyances.
  • Counts types and quantities of items during inventories, and maintains tally listings during the counts; Recounts or searches other storage locations to assist in determining the basis for over, short, and/or misplaced items.
  • Uses mechanized, automated, and manual material handling equipment (i.e., standard type forklift, warehouse tractor, stock selector, or generalpurpose vehicle) to move, issue, ship, and distribute a wide variety of materials.
  • Packs and/or repacks a variety of items utilizing a variety of standard packing materials, methods, and techniques.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screenout element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screenout element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition.

Often required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions.

Employee may lift and carry items that weigh up to 40 pounds. Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
