Duration and Process

The format of your training is a practical alternative to a business degree. It usually lasts three years. Afterwards, you'll have two certifications: retail merchant and Handelsfachwirt (equivalent to a Bachelor's degree today). Additionally, you'll obtain the 'trainer certificate' (trainers aptitude according to AEVO), a third qualification. These certifications will directly propel you to a responsible position in the future. Initially, you will learn about the daily operations in retail - from procurement and sales to marketing, consultancy, customer service, and interactions. Furthermore, you can acquire extensive and in-depth knowledge about business management, marketing, work organization, and more. During your training, you will also participate in various projects - There is no tuition at a local vocational school. Instead, you will attend a local trade school.
