The position is located in the Competence Center "Sustainability and Infrastructure Systems" and is to be filled as soon as possible. The Competence Center is concerned with the transformation of socio-technical systems in the direction of sustainability.
What you will do
- At our institute you will analyze and evaluate the advancing digitalization in mobility. Your focus will be on automated, connected and shared mobility in passenger transport.
- Based on your work on the transport impacts of innovative mobility services - on the demand as well as the supply side - you will develop a methodology for a sustainability assessment of these innovations.
- You will integrate your research results into predictive simulation models, develop scenarios for the future development of innovative mobility services, and derive recommendations for action for sustainable transformation.
- You will creatively develop your own research ideas, contribute your knowledge to research projects already underway in our interdisciplinary project teams, and expand your professional network.
- You will do your doctorate within the framework of the Dok program at Fraunhofer ISI, which is based on a four-year contract. The dissertation is written at the interface of project work and independent scientific work with a strong focus on current issues in applied research.
What you bring to the table
- You have a master's degree in economics, sustainability/environmental science, transportation science, or related field.
- At best, you will have knowledge of automated, connected and shared mobility or public transport.
- Ideally, you have experience in at least one of the following fields: Application of quantitative evaluation methods, programming languages, simulation software, system dynamics methodology, classical traffic modeling, or multi-criteria analysis.
- Furthermore, you are characterized by a good understanding of systemic interrelationships and enthusiasm for the challenges and opportunities of digitalization and automation as a gamechanger in mobility.
- You should be interested in interdisciplinary issues and have a high degree of independence, teamwork and communication skills in interdisciplinary contexts. Very good written and spoken German and English language skills are also required, as well as the ability to convincingly present work results in oral and written form.

- ISI doctoral program: The doctoral program at Fraunhofer ISI is very closely linked to the research topics and projects in the CompetenceCenter and consists of an orientation phase (1 year) followed by a dissertation phase (3 years).

Regular colloquia give doctoral students the opportunity for intensive discussions and informationexchanges with experienced researchers and supervisors. The position is limited to four years. The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
