of » Pathology « to begin as soon as possible. The position is a tenured W3 position. The appointed professor will also serve as the Director of the Institute of General Pathology at the Technical University of Munich.
Scientific Environment
The professorship will be affiliated with the TUM School of Medicine and Health, one of Germany’s leading medical schools in research and teaching, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary and translational research. The Full Professorship for Pathology, along with the planned Full Professorship for Neuropathology, will ensure comprehensive and excellent pathological diagnostics for the TUM University Hospital and beyond. The Institute of Pathology is integrated into the outstanding research environment of the TUM School of Medicine and Health, at TUM and in the Greater Munich Area. The Bavarian Cancer Research Center, the German Consortium for Translational Cancer Research, and the Center for Personalized Oncology are most relevant interaction partners for this professorship.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position include research and teaching, pathological diagnostics in patient care, and the promotion of early-career scientists. We seek to appoint an expert in the research field of translational morphomolecular pathology. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the subject area as well as in the general basic subjects of the TUM School of Medicine and Health in addition to the university’s bachelor and master programs.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates with an exceptional international reputation in research and teaching and an established academic record demonstrated through an internationally recognized research program. A university degree and an outstanding doctoral degree or equivalent scientific qualification, as well as pedagogical aptitude, including the ability to teach in English, are prerequisites. A board certification in pathology is required.
Substantial leadership competencies in a clinical organization with corresponding leadership qualities are expected, along with international research experience and proven expertise in developing, acquiring and managing competitive, collaborative third-party funding and strategic research projects.
Candidates should be fully committed to collaborating with scientists at the TUM School of Medicine and Health, the TUM University Hospital, as well as with scientist at other TUM schools and academic departments, and to participating in research networks.

As a rule, the holder of this professorship will not be employed as a civil servant (Beamte) under German law. The duties related to patient care as Director of the Institute of General Pathology including the right to bill additional fees, will be regulated separately through a head physician contract with the TUM board of management.
