âJob Title: HVDC Project Manager

Location: Berlin, Germany (Hybrid)

Our client aims to strengthen its Owner's Engineering team in the context of deep integration of renewable energy sources. To achieve this, we are seeking HVDC Project Managers responsible for providing expertise in all facets of HVDC projects.

As a Project Manager, your primary accountability will be ensuring the successful delivery of the HVDC project scope. This involves coordinating and directing team members, as well as liaising with the lead project director. Your role will encompass active involvement in international projects on a full-time at one of our European head offices. As a pivotal expert, you will engage with clients, partners, and relevant departments within our client's organization, supporting clients in their project development efforts with an unwavering focus on quality and overall performance.

Additionally, you will be assisting procurement experts and legal counsel in developing, implementing, and executing a viable procurement approach for HVDC projects, ensuring open and fair competition, compliance with client internal procedures, and adherence to project specifications and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting feasibility studies on proposed HVDC projects at various stages in the project life cycle, emphasizing technical feasibility, technological risk assessment, cost estimation, and grid connection feasibility.

  • Collaborating with clients to develop and determine the design parameters and topology of the HVDC system.

  • Identifying, assessing, and comparing alternative solutions, providing advice on the best technical solutions for specific projects based on client needs and objectives.

  • Developing and reviewing functional specifications of HVDC systems, focusing on performance requirements tailored to specific clients to support fair competition and market innovation.

  • Leading technical discussions and negotiations with manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors during tendering, offering advice to the client on bid non-compliances, viable alternative solutions, and scope gaps.

  • Identifying and managing key technical interfaces between the HVDC system, its constituent components, and other installations throughout all project phases.

  • Managing and collaborating with a system studies engineer to assess the performance of HVDC systems and their impact on transmission grids.

  • Engaging with clients, manufacturers, suppliers, and contractors to ensure the system's overall design and performance align with client expectations.

  • Providing advice on overall system design and adopting mechanisms to track, monitor, and approve design changes in a highly controlled manner.

  • Identifying, documenting, implementing, and monitoring lessons learned and improvements across all project phases.

  • Ensuring adherence to and compliance with client expectations, requirements, policies, and processes throughout all project phases.

  • Managing scope changes systematically and in a controlled manner, assessing their impact on project scope, schedule, budget, and risks, and adopting appropriate approval procedures.

  • Furthermore, undertaking site visits/surveys as required for design activities or site support activities.

  • Proactively identifying, assessing, and managing risks to avoid adverse impacts on the project.

  • Participating in commercial discussions with clients in coordination with the Project Director.

  • Lastly, preparing project reports for the customer in coordination with the Project Director.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in applied economics, mathematics, or engineering.

  • Additionally, 5+ years of relevant experience in the energy sector and project management.

  • Moreover, ensuring quality assurance and whole life cycle quality management.

  • Deep expertise in energy economics, and a strong interest in quantitative methods, optimization, and artificial intelligence.

  • Knowledge of modelling languages, data analytics, and simulation software widely used in the energy industry.

  • Leading the project team and ensuring coordination with key stakeholders.

  • Being accountable for the effective delivery of assigned tasks and project deliverables on schedule, within budget, and at the required level of quality.

  • Furthermore, ensuring design assurance, review, and compliance control at all stages of the project.

  • Additionally, fluent in English

  • Lastly, knowledge of German, Dutch, and/or French is a strong asset.
