Who are we looking for?Are you interested in the connections between Climate Change and global conflict? Are you looking for a part-time HiWi role where you can make a difference?
Then come join us This course is the result of a collaborative partnership involving various professorships from the TUM School of Engineering and Design, TUM School of Life Sciences, and the TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology, alongside the United Nations (UN), and other esteemed partners like the Institute for Interdisciplinary Data Science and AI at the University of Birmingham, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Al Jazeera Data Lab, and DesignIt, Munich. In this course, students will discover how to utilize widely accessible tools, such as Google Earth Engine, and engage with publicly available datasets. They will develop insights from geospatial data that serve to inform decision-makers, politicians, and the broader public. The project engages students who work alongside UN experts, gaining practical experience while contributing to global efforts in addressing environmental issues and promoting peace. The project's culmination will produce a detailed visualization of geospatial data related to climate change and conflict. This visualization will be displayed on an online platform and in external exhibitions using different multi-media experiences. It holds significant potential for use in advocacy campaigns during the COP30 proceedings. What you will work onIn order for this course to be successful, two HiWis will be hired at 7.5hrs a week. One of these roles will focus on supporting the course from a design perspective.
As a student assistant, your role will involve:
- Building and prepare design focused learning materials and examples for the students to support their required detailed visualization of their results
- Serving as a liaison between TUM and the design focused external advisors to ensure the appropriate design tools are being leveraged
- Providing additional support to the students as they create their visualizations during and after TUM Project Week
The ideal candidate will:
- Have a strong familiarity with design programs (ie: Affinity, Photoshop, Indesign, etc.).
- Has helped plan organize, and manage events in the past.
- Can work independently, responsibly, and with a structured approach.
- Showcase a basic interest in Climate Change and/or global conflict.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and a keen interest in data science.
- Be proficient in both spoken and written English.
