The Department of Social Work, Health and Media is seeking to fill at the earliest opportunity the following full-time post at the Magdeburg campus, initially limited to 5 years with the option to extend. W2 Professor of Technical Documentation with the focus on Audiovisual and Digital Media

In our Department of Social Work, Health and Media we place particular importance on open dealings with one another, cooperation between colleagues, good supervision of students and excellent teaching quality.

Your Duties:

• You will carry out teaching and research in the following application-oriented subject areas: Audiovisual design and/or design of offers for digital media and/or augmented, virtual and mixed reality
• There will be a particular focus on teaching. The classes on the Bachelor's study programme in "Language and Communication in Organizations" as well as possible inter-programme teaching comprise theoretical, practical and project-type sessions, which should be seen in the context of the digitalisation of the world we live and work in. In particular, the use of state-of-the-art media formats in communicating technical and specialist information is key. This also expressly comprises the inclusive design of media products.
• You will be committed to strengthening the specialist profile of the Department, will work on an interdisciplinary basis in the context of cross-departmental cooperation and will be involved in the development of the range of international programmes offered in the Department.
• We expect you to take a role in the successful establishment and development of focal research areas e.g. in the fields of usability, design research, specialised communication studies or related subject areas.
• It goes without saying that you will be committed to technology and knowledge transfer and cooperation with regional and international stakeholders as well as to contributing to the development of the university.
• Moreover, it is important to us for you to take an active involvement in academic self-governance.

Your Profile:
You will be a good fit with us if you are an enthusiastic teacher and researcher and enjoy supporting our students with their learning as well as encouraging them in their chosen career.

• You will have successfully completed a university degree and possess a particular aptitude for scientific work, which will generally be evidenced by a qualifying doctoral degree (or alternatively achievements equivalent to a doctorate) with relevance to technical editing, specialist communication, intra- or interdisciplinary knowledge transfer, or design of audiovisual and digital information media. Furthermore, you will have published work relevant to the area of the appointment.
• You will be able to show evidence of pedagogic experience. You will be able to communicate information in a clear and practically oriented manner, be it face-to-face, online or via hybrid teaching methods / blended learning scenarios. Experience of teaching in universities, in adult, further or continuing education or in-house corporate training will be advantageous.
• You will be able to demonstrate particular achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in the areas of design of audiovisual and/or digital media. These particular achievements will have been attained in professional practice of three years’ duration outside of the higher education sector.
• Ideally you will have experience in the acquisition of third-party funds and the management of research projects. Equally, international experience is highly desirable.
• You will be able to lead groups of students and teams of colleagues and empathise with the students’ concerns. Through your willingness to work in teams and talent for communication, you will demonstrate your enjoyment of working with students and collaborating with students and colleagues in constructive discourse for the good of the university.
• You know how to convey scientific knowledge in an easily understandable way in both German and English and to communicate securely in German in everyday life at the university.

The general conditions of appointment for professors are derived from § 35 para. 2 of the current version of the Higher Education Act of the state of Saxony-Anhalt. Provided that the relevant requirements are met (assuming, among other things, that the candidate is under the age of 52) the appointee will be granted temporary civil servant status, otherwise they will be employed on the basis of a temporary employment relationship under private law. The appointment will initially be limited to 5 years. Should the relevant requirements be met this may be followed by a permanent contract.
